Nomex® is a brand of high performances synthetic fibres. The Nomex® was the first aramid commercialised (in 1961 by the company DuPont de Nemours). It’s a meta-aramid: the poly (m-phenyleneisophtalamid). The abbreviation is MPD-I. This fibre, like each aramid, can be used in extreme conditions. Thanks to its low combustibility and its thermostability, this material is used for safety materials. For example, the Nomex® fabric is used on the manufacturing of fireman clothes.
The poly(p-phenylneterephtalamide) (PPD-T) is a polymer composed of aromatic nucleuses separated by amid groups. It’s belonging to aramid fibres family. The poly-para-phenylene terephtalamide was discovered and commercialised under the trademark « KEVLAR® ». This material was found in 1965 by Stéphanie Kwolek and Herbert Blades, researchers of the company DuPont de Nemours. The company decides to call this polymer “ KEVLAR®”. It was commercialised in 1972.
Dollfus & Muller is using Nomex® to manufacture Nomex® belts and Nomex® felts for printing dryer belts, sublimation transfer felts, compacting felts. Other aramids like Nomex® and Kevlar® are now available.
Nomex®and Kevlar® are DuPont de Nemours registered trademarks
Dollfus & Muller is using PPS in PPS belts for printing dryer belts. The Phenylen Sulphide (PPS) – Poly (p-phenylene sulphide) is an organic polymer composed of aromatic cycles bounded to the sulphide. The synthetical fibres and textiles coming from this polymer are known to resist to chemical and thermical attacks. The PPS is used to manufacture fabric filters for coal boilers, paper mill felts, electrical insulation, special membranes, joints and trimming. The PPS, which is insulating can be converted in semi insulating.
The Phenylen Sulphide is a high performance thermoplastic. It can be moulded, machined at high tolerances. In its pure solid form, it can be opaque, white to clear brown. The maximum using temperature is 218°C. The PPS does not dissolve at temperatures under around 200°C.
Chevron Phillips sells this polymer under the name of RYTON.
Dollfus & Muller is manufacturing PTFE coated belts for printing dryers and relax dryers and PTFE sheets which are used as compactor introductory sheets.
PTFE (etymology: tetra-fluoroethylen + on ending for plastic materials) is the registered trademark since 1945 for polytetrafluoroethylen (PTFE) in common language from the American company DuPont de Nemours. This Polymer is thermostable, has a huge chemical inertia and an anti sticking power.
• Properties deterioration : 260 °C
• Decomposition point : 350 °C
• In high temperature emit a harmful gas
• Young Module : 0.5 GPa
• Maximum constraint : 23 MPa
• Chemically inert
• High resistance to the corrosion
Dollfus & Muller is using in PEEK in PEEK belts for printing dryer belts.
The Polyetheretherketone pointed out by the abbreviation PEEK (PolyEtherEtherKetone), is a polymer commercialised in 1978 by ICI.
The PEEK is a thermoplastic semi cristalline, thermostable with a high price. The PEEK is used for example to reinforce carbon fibre structures or the coating of mechanical pieces non lubricate, also for the surgical prosthesis.
• Density : 1.32
• Very resistant to the thermical degradation
• Temperature of glassy transition : 143 °C
• Fusion point : about 343 °C
• Excellent mechanical properties even at high temperature
• Young Module : 3.6 GPa
• Maximum constraint : 90 - 100 MPa
• Elongation : 50%
• Excellent chemical resistance even at high temperature
• Very resistant to the organic and aqueous environments and to solvents
• Moderately resistant to acids. The PEEK can be attacked by the halogens, the strong acids of Bronsted and Lewis as well as some composed halogens and aromatical hydrocarbures.
Based on our experience, we have already been faced with :
Our felts and conveyors can be stored during few months. The area where they are stored has to be dry. We suggest for our felts to open the parcels and put them on the floor to avoid having creases on the surface. Do not put anything on the product not to damage it. Cover the parcel to avoid dust.
Please confer to our setting instructions which are sent with the felt/belt. If you cannot find it, please contact us.
